Hi,

I've started using Pidgin, so want to get shot of MSN, Yahoo etc from my startup.

Is it simply a matter of de-selecting them in msconfig -> startup, or is there more to it than that?

(I have a dim memory of reading somewhere that getting rid of MSN from your systray needs registry changes or something)

Apparently this does the trick

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Messenger\Client]
"PreventRun"=dword:00000001

instead of being mental, you can just go into the program, tools, options or something, untick 'allow msn to start with windows', click ok

The man speakth the truth.

a lot of my mates say "urghhh I hate how Live Messenger starts all the time its ****". Its dead easy to just tell it not to start on startup... :rolleyes:

do the same for C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\ then

if youre on XP do an msconfig and untick "msnmsgr" from the startup tab.

renaming a folder to stop something startup up is a crap way to fix the problem

as is using msconfig

you're making up solutions for problems that don't exist

jesus. shoot the messenger why dont you.

if the uninstall and unticking the run when windows starts box doesnt work then why not try those.
