I have a few old Shuttles and some spare 500gb sata drives that could do with being used:

SN45GV2
SS51G
SN41G

All of these do not have sata ports. I could go with a sata card but that would mean the removal of the soundcards which I do not want to do. So I have had a quick nose around on fleabay and found something that will allow a sata drive to adapt onto the ide port. Has anyone used these adaptors and do they work with no issues? Just to clear up this is not pata to sata, I want to go the other way - sata to pata.

Thx :)

ide on motherboard to sata hdd?

I have used one in the past. Performance wasnt great, it felt fragile on the back of the drive BUT it worked fine. :)

I know the performance wont be great but as long as it works at ata100 it should be ok. Is there anything I should avoid? cheap ones from fleabay or does it not matter? I have seen some at a local electronics/radio type shop everyone has heard of for £9.99. Just wondering if the quality would be better or not?

Excellent :)

I shall grab one asap. Im going to give the sn45g a dust off, fit a new psu and a bigger drive. Just gotta hope the problems with it are psu related or it will be a waste of time

Back when Abit were around they used to ship those converter boxes free with their motherboards.
As samcat said, as long as you don't go mooching around them when they are plugged in they will be fine. :)
[edit]just realised the abit parts were the other way around, SATA mobo to IDE HDD.. darn.[/edit]
