Well ive recently upgraded my machine with a blu-ray drive so that i can play films via a HDMI cable through the tv in my lounge. My question being, how do i get the sound through the HDMI cable, is there a special cable that needs to go from the graphics card to the mobo or is it carried via the PCI-I slot that the card is plugged into ?

Sorry if the question is slightly confusing.

If you're using an Nvidia card, you'll have to plug in a cable from the mobo/sound card to the graphics card. With ATi, this is not needed.

To get HDMI sound to work, you just need to select HDMI as the playback device in the Sound settings in Control Panel.

If it is the same as the GTX 295 you will have to connect an SPDIF cable from the card to the SPDIF header on mobo (check manual).

Be sure to check the correct orientation when connecting the cable to the mobo because although it only goes in one way to the card it can be connected incorrectly to the mobo (in the case of my set-up anyway).

Then as Reflux said, change the Output audio device in windows to HDMI/Digital Output

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but what happens if I use a DVI - HDMI lead to connect to a TV? Would I then have to use another cable from my mobo audio to the TV?

If you use a DVI cable then you will need another way to connect sound, I'm sure of it.
