Getting the kid a 10 or 11 inch Netbook but I am looking for comments on my
choice and any other recomendations that would fit into the price bracket.

Price up to £450.00

Looking to get 2GB RAM,Duel Core and a good res screen.

My choice is the Dell Inspiron M101z at £429.00 with Blue Cover.

Any better options ?

Also he has a lot of films on Blu-Ray whats the best way to transfer them ?

Cheers

I was looking for an upgrade from my old Dell Inspiron 11z and actually ordered an m101z as it is the next model of the 11" inspiron but ended up cancelling it when I came across a thread on here about 13.3" notebooks and discovered the Acer 8371. I wanted something that was as small and light weight as the 11z but better in the graphics area.

I would recommend either the Acer 8371 or 3810TZG instead of the Dell m101z. it's a little bit bigger than the Dell but much better spec wise and actually costs about £90 less. I know you said you were looking for a 10 or 11" model but there isn't too much difference in size compared to the 13.3" models. It has better battery life due to the 6-cell battery and is much more capable in gaming with it's switchable dedicated ATI GPU (also has an integrated intel GPU to save power). From what I've read, the ATI 4330 is a fair bit better than the 4225 in the Dell (mainly because it has dedicated RAM and more pipelines).

Without sounding like a fanboy here, I would also say the Intel CULV cpu is marginally better than the AMD Neo cpu in terms of performance and power consumption....which is surprising considering the Intel one is like a year old now where as the AMD one has only just been released as far as I know? lol

The 8371 can be had for about £340 including a 2.5% discount and I believe the 3810TZG can be had for about £370. They are basically the same laptops but have a few options different e.g. HDMI outputs, Bluetooth, Fingerprint scanner etc. I can also vouch for build quality of the 8371 and would say it's probably more robust than my 11z is! very impressed with it so far :)

Can't be arsed mucking about with installing Win 7 (which I don't have
anyway) so it looks like the 3810TZG.

Is there a 2.5% discount voucher kicking about ?

it is a shame W7 doesnt come with it, but if you did have a copy it's not exactly a huge job. W7 installs 95% of the devices anyway, only thing you need to install yourself is ATI Drivers and fingerprint scanner drivers :)
