Hi all,

Have got a 3800x which is at stock but running 3800 ram. It’s sat under a noctua d15 and never goes above 60 degrees.

everything else is at stock, is there any point in overclocking this cpu? Or settings wise anything else that could boost it performance ??? Use is for gaming and some video work.

Does it consistently run at 4.5ghz? Does it ever run at 4.5ghz? If it flies along at its advertised speed I wouldn't mess around with it. I see you say it's 'at stock' but generally that means one to three cores boost occasionally to 'boost' speed when there's no appreciable load on the CPU and when any meaningful work has to be done it throttles to 3.8-4ghz.

My 3800X runs all cores at 4.4 while running Project Cars 2 stock. I put some time and effort into tightening up the RAM, but I don't feel inclined to do anything with the CPU.

Well from what I've seen you have a decent chip performing as or as near to as expected as it is likely to. I'd leave it alone apart from trying to get IF as fast as possible. Seems you've already done that.

If it's working to your liking I'd just leave it as is.

I have the same CPU, and it works perfectly in it's stock config. The CPUs are designed to run near max capabilities to begin with, so OC won't give you any worthwhile gains.

I've got an 3800x on its way any settings I need to adjust from stock in bios?

I've got 8 pack 3200 cas14 tweaked up using that memory calculator.

Cheers
