I have installed my old monitor to the HD5850's dvi-i port using a vga/dvi adapter.

My TV cable used to connect the old gpu has a 15 pin vga connector on each end, as the HD5850 does not have 2 x dvi I cannot connect it up.

I can see the HD5850 has HDMI & Displayport
The TV has a 15-pin vga imput for the pc & only 1 HDMI imput that I can see (This is used by my Virgin box)

Any suggestions on how I can get the TV connected to the HD5850 as a 2nd output?

how about getting a splitter cable to run off the dvi port ?, then run vga to monitor and tv

Thanks for both ideas, going with the splitter idea as nothing else to buy just the splitter.
Switch is a good idea but I would have to buy a 5m hdmi cable as well.
Will update once the splitter arrives

Splitter arrived today, connected it up & got more problems.

Connected monitor to both connections works, so I know the video signal is split & working. My pc does not control my monitor switching on and of itself when connected to the splitter, it does if connected direct to GPU. This does not bother me as I can simply switch it on & off direct myself.

However, when I connect the TV to either connection, the screen is blank and a message appears stating 'Unsupported Signal' 'Adjust your PC output' at the bottom right hand side of the TV, (when this cable was connected to my old gpu via the dvi/vga adapter it said the same message but worked as I had the tv as a 2nd monitor set up in Catalyst Control Center)

Any suggestions on how to get the pc output to display on the TV?

Little confused as to what you mean.

I'm guessing that it might be that your resolution is set higher than the tv supports. Set the resolution to the native resolution of the tv and see if that works

Didn't think of that, just changed the Hertz from 75 to 60 & bingo it's working now.

Thanks

No worries. It's worth making sure you have set it to the native resolution for best picture quality. This is usually the highest setting on the slider anyway.

You can go into the display tab on the personalise menu to increase the font size and icons to make things easier to see on the TV ("medium zoom").
