has anyone ever had luck in getting virgin to install wireing down a private road?

we live on a road just off the main road, basically turn off the road drive 10 meters then its our houses, there is a row of about 8 in total. every other house on the main road can get it just not our block of 8.

when i enter my address and phone number in the virgin site they say that we can get it but when phoneing up we cant :/

we also get bombarded with fliers from them.

so does anyone know what it would take for them to put cables down??

i hate adsl and up to 8mb sucks :/

Heard about this kind of stuff before with BT.

I think they will do it but it will probably cost you thousands.

My mum is in the exact same situation as you, every road around her is cabled up, but she lives in a little side road / cul-de-sac where VM weren't given permission to dig up the road back in the day.

There's nothing you can do about it.

Pay for someone else like some old granny that is in the cable area but wont use it and just connect off it with a good 300mbs wireless card?

:/

I had the same problem living not far from you near the Crown Pub in Standish.

The cable stopped before the railway bridge where the 4x4 scrap yard is and we lived just past it.

You need to talk to the Planners in the Preston office of what use to be Telewest but now Virgin and put a case to them to extend the cable if everyone on the row agrees your in with a good chance.

Good Luck.

i sent them an email yesterday asking what i can do to get them to cable it, so hopefully they wont just say "we dont plan to extend our network blah blah" and will say do this this and this.

but if that does happen, is there anything i can get BT to do to improve the line to our house so i can get faster connection through adsl?
