hi i have a netgear setup for open access on wired network, just installed xp and xp wont find an internet connection or even a network, however on the back of my pc my ds3's network port is flashing madly so it is working, just appears xp thinks it isnt.

so i cant connect to anything and only work offline.

its setup to work properly i did it myself and set to auto detect, but it wont

any ideas please ?

I assume the ethernet adapter isnt being funky on device manager, sorry to insult your intelligence!
Windows might be using a generic driver instead of a proper one.

I have experienced the same problem on a friends XP machine, the driver was wrong so I updated it but it still didnt work! I then proceeded to install a PCI ethernet adapter (as opposed to onboard) but again it still didnt work! D:
Dont panic! Your machine may not be as cursed.

As Neptune says, check that the NIC is performing correctly in Device Manager. I agree with him that it could be a driver problem. Did you install all the drivers for the motherboard from the CD supplied with it?

If the NIC looks as though it should be working, open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all". The IP address for the NIC should be in the range 192.168.xxx.xxx. If it starts with 169 then the NIC can't see the router and quackers's suggestion of trying a known good network cable looks good.

These problems are usually easy to diagnose but there's a sensible order to it, starting from the basics. We also need you to give us complete information about what you've done. "its setup to work properly i did it myself " doesn't really help because we didn't watch you so we don't know if you know how to do it properly. ;)

i solved it by installind a dlink ethernet card, installing its drivers, and downloading the Marvell onboard ethernet driver then uninstalling the dlink one, lol.
