GF needs help - Illustrator Help

Sorry for another thread

Anyway the GF has a shape, eg a star in illustrator and want to put a photo over the star, to give a textured effect. Is there anyway of "punching" a hole in the hole to give the same shape as the star behind?

E.g

wants photo exactely same shape as vector star
