GF100 512sp benchmarks vs 480sp

6% extra shaders, 6% extra performance 25% extra cost =Priceless

Didnt ATI say that the shaders on SI would be the same as the 5xxx series so it can only be performance and efficiency tweaks with maybe a clock speed bump but as drunkenmaster said we really dont know.

They will be using the same "type" of shaders. Northern Island chips were supposed to use a revised type of stream shader, Southern Islands are using a mix of Cypress and NI architectures, apparently anyway, which would be the same design shaders from Cypress chips, with the newly designed core logic from NI.

The actual shader numbers haven't come out yet, but I can't see them being huge increases, they're gonna need to drop the manufacturing process and tweak the shader design to keep pulling performance out of them.

SI will probably have a small bump in shader count, and rely on increased clock speeds and various die tweaks for the rest of the performance gains.

hehe, Nvidia + naming inappropriately, I don't think they mind, don't they have at the mo 310-330 as 280 derivitive mobile parts, a 340gts as a 9800 derivitive, and a 350/360gts back on as the 280 derivitive mobile parts.

Frankly if 2x 460gtx is faster than a 480gtx, and it is, then calling it a 495gtx for a change, would actually be appropriate.

That's probably quite true now that I think about it. :p

Is this actually an official nVidia card? For some reason I've been under the impression that it was a custom design from a board partner.

I get the feeling its all just some kind of launch spoiler for the 6000 cards TBH.

It seems like a lot of effort to build a non reference spec card from scratch for 6% more performance.

But people are still stupid enough to fork out the extra dough for it despite small increase in performacne that's why they put in a lot of effort becuase the premiums and returns are very high.
