Well to start with, Hello i'm new here to the forums but have been a lifelong Overclockers hardware buyer. But down to the buisness.

I currently have in my possession what was a Packard Bell IMedia X2414 (i know, i know ughhh) but was completely rebuilt and now the only original rubbish Packard Bell part is the mobo (no monies for upgrade:( ). I have the latest Packard Bell bios flashed on it but as a lot of you probably know these oem bios's tend to have little to no option for configuration. Packard Bell brand the mobo the MCP73VT-PM but after doing a some research i have found that ECS actualy make the mobo and there name for it is GF7050VT-M5. It is almost like they just got a few of these mobo's and were like, lets just scribble a new code on it to confuse people. So i got hold of the original GF7050VT-M5 bios and it came with AFUWIN (i hear that some of you don't agree with a Windows based bios flash but never the less) and tried to flash it but i got "error file rom id incorrect" when trying to do so. so theres a couple of questions i could use some help with really:
1. How safe/likely do you think it is or will it work?
2. I noticed there is an option for "do not check ROM ID" would this stop the error message?

I'm COMPtia A+ certified and an MCDST but bios flashing is something i've never had experience with. Any help or expertees would be great.

Thanks again

Hi,
I am facing exactly the same issue. My son has a Packard Bell iMedia a2730 with the MCP73VT-PM board in, but the stock bios has no CPU adjustments. I want to try overclocking his core 2 duo.
I have already deleted the Packard Bell system restore partition and upgraded to Windows 7 so the only danger would be due to a failed Bios update with the ECS GF7050VT-M5 Bios which might brick the board.
One thing I did notice though: if you zoom in on the GF7050VT-M5 mobo picture on the ECS website, you will see that even that one has 'MCP73VT-PM' written on it!!
I have yet to find anyone who has dared to try flashing the board with the ECS bios... Have you tried it and if so how did it go?

Well things have moved on a bit since my last post.
As part of upgrading we also wanted to go up to 8gb ram, and incredibly enough it was cheaper to buy a new motherboard and 8gb DDR3 ram rather than buy 8gb DDR2 ram for the existing MCP73VT-PM/GF7050VT-M5 motherboard. DDR2 ram is so expensive these days.
Its already ordered (70 quid total mobo and DDR3 ram) so before I pull out the old mobo in a few days I will try flashing the Bios with the ECS update and post the results here for posterity. Maybe this will help Packard Bell and eMachines users who still have this mobo to get some overclocking options.....
