i know nothing about vista but my girlfriend is saying her computer has been really slow for about a year. i asked how much ram she has. she sent me this picture. i was always sort of under the impression that 2gb is needed just for vista to run? or is that 1 GB? anyway shes not got enough thats for sure. is whats in the picture the entirety of her RAM or is there more ram hidden away.. (sound stupid but I've no idea about vista)

heres the ram picture she sent me

Windows basic?
Looks like a generic system you can buy from a high street electrical store for ~£300. Onboard graphic memory is shared with the RAM, so 512MB with 66MB going to the onboard card.
I'd be surprised if it's not Vista basic, hence the low score.

I've been trying to get her into device manager to find out. but her brother's password is on it, however.. she only plays solitaire he doesn't play anything so i would like to say no. but I'm afraid i can't answer that one for sure.

(thats in reference to the on board graphics question)

More RAM would definitely help things. The Celeron is a slow CPU but at that clockspeed, it'll be capable of running Vista Home Basic decently enough.

Adding more RAM will depend on how many sticks it has currently, and how many slots are free.

Ouch 2GB ram needs to be put into that machine, I remember when I tried running off 512mb on Vista... it was not good :(.

Lol @ the time it probably took that laptop to bootup after you bought it.

Had a recent toshiba with 2gb of ram and that still took 20mins to do all the pre-faffing.

Lol, I wouldn't be happy running XP on that, let alone Vista!

2gb would be my minimum comfortable specification for Vista; we run some VMs at work with 1gb and they aren't quick enough for everyday use IMO.
