Other than having your profile on another drive, is there a good way to manage GFWL save games that mean they don't get deleted if I reinstall Windows? Its a stupid idea to store them in profiles as I always forget before formatting.

Ha, Just found out that it doesnt even matter if your setup is to have your My Documents folder on a different drive, as it uses full paths so goes to C:\Users\username\Documents regardless.

God this is so retarded. I'm having to pray I still have backups of my C drive whenever I pick up an old GFWL game

Most are stored in the same folder structure as other games in the My Documents\My Games. Same as if you use Steamcloud really where they bury them in the Steam install folder. Just find the savefile then manually backup before reinstalling the OS is easiest but I think that freeware gamesave manager picks most nowadays anyway only Gears Of War, Halo2 & Shadowrun are not backupable the rest should be as long as you use the same online GFWL profile.

But the game isn't installed in My Documents, so why store the saves there? My games are installed on a different physical disk. What was wrong with storing the saves with the games? I don't use the C drive for my documents either so there's a folder sat all on its own in my C drive full if my save games that I have to remember before formatting.

Its just the most useless way of organizing saves.

Quite a few games save to documents though, not just GFWL. One example is Bioware, ME and Dragon Age etc. Hell I have tons of games that save in documents.

Saying that, I'm on my 2nd restart of Dirt 3 (first time I backed up the wrong files). Anyways damn game won't even start, I thought it was radeon pro being a silly billy, but nope just won't start.
