Hi, Been a while since I looked at Gfx cards..

Currently have a 7900GS.. which is currently failing left right and centre.. loadsa tears etc in textures when playing games like CSS.

So.. I have £100 floating around anf I was wondering what I could get to replace this.. I can increase my budget to £150/160 if required.

I don't wanna buy anything to big as I'm gonna do a full system upgrade in the next 6 or 8 months.

I've seen a 9800GTX is £146 inc vat on OCUK.. is this an ok card or should I perhaps look at something lower?

Thanks for any help :)

(btw.. system specs are -> Opty170 @ 2.7Ghz, 2GB DDR550, 74GB Raptor, NF4 MB)

1600x1200.

Possibly looking at a monitor upgrade too.
I am however putting this on hold as I will be coming into some cash soon so will more than likely perform a full rebuild with cpu and mb/ram upgrades.

Why not find the other 20 quid and get 4870?

this is what i would do
for the extra £20 on top of your budget
its worth it

my 9800gtx is pretty good
its overclocked to 9800gtx+ speed anyway
then i whacked my own overclock on it

its a good value card and in the same league as the 4850
if you want the extra cooling get a 9800 at the 4850 is hot

if you want best performance and a good deal of futureproofing find £20 from somewhere and get a 4870 - it might be maxing your budget - but you will get massive performance for your £££
