I will have around £100 to spend on a GFX Card. I would prefer getting a 2nd hand one as I would get more performance for my money.

I will be running a 24" Full HD monitor so I need a card that's got a bit of juice.

Current CPU is an AMD Phenom II X4 3.2Ghz so I don't think I'll have to worry about bottleknecking.

Current PSU is a Corsair 400w - would this be enough? I hope so because I know a new PSU would cost me a hefty amount.

I've been out of the PC game for a long time, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Would I be able to play games on high settings with a 5770? And at a 1920X1080 res?

And would the corsair 400w be enough juice to power it?

In a nutshell, no. Try pick up a 4870X2 or GTX285/295 off the MM. But to be honest if you want to be playing games at 1920*1080 on high settings you'll need a card that will need more than 400W PSU.

Cheers guys. Looks like I'm sticking with my Xbox 360 for gaming!

What could would you suggest for 1080p movie playback? I'm currently running on an old 8400GS. I'm thinking of picking up a cheap 4850 from the MM, what do you think?

Cheers

The 768mb 460 is a fine card. Should walk over most things at that res, even if it is the lower end 460.
Overclock the nuts off it and should get into the region of the 1gb anyway

Looks like everybody has missed the fact you are happy to go for a second hand card which opens up numerous doors and makes life a lot cheaper. Second hand 5850s seem to be going for around the £100 mark and you should get away with it on a 400w corsair, firstly because the corsair is a good unit and punches above its 400w label and secondly because this implies it will be fine.

Edit: dammit beaten!!!!!

Cheers, will keep a look out for the 5850 in a couple of months when I can afford. So you recon a 5850 will be able to play games on a 1920x1080 res?

8800GTS 640MB. Most games at Max w/o AA.

Upgraded now, as found an irresistible 4870 that was mispelled on the bay. on there, my 8800GTS was £9 :D
