I'm looking at a new GFX card as the fan on my current one has thrown in the towel.

My current card has 1xDVI and 1xVGA - I use the DVI for my monitor and the VGA goes to my TV for watching films.

I've seen this card which also has an HDMI output too. Does this mean I could effectively have 3 different screens running off the one card? ie. dual monitors using the DVI & VGA outputs, then the HDMI going to my TV?

This is not a gaming PC, I just knock around on the internet and watch films. A passive card would be ideal, especially the one you've linked smoory but sadly I have to go with AGP cards as the PC is 6+ years old so no PCI express!

Would I be able to choose which of the 3 monitors I run from the card, even if I can't run all 3 at once?

This HIS website is somewhat lacking in exact details but as you get a choice of backplates and the low profile option omits the VGA port, so I would assume that you can use the DVI and HDMI at the same time.

The chipset supports two DVI connections (according to AMD) and as HDMI is electrically the same (plus audio) I think it is a safe assumption. I can't find any info that says which socket would be deactivated by using the VGA though.

Sorry I can't offer any more help. It may be worth emailing HIS if you want to certain.

Ahh, the old AGP problem.

There are some AGP passives if you shop around.

Apart from this, I can't find anything cheaper that's passive, other than that, just get something none passive from OCUK. Chances are, the GPU you posted prob won't have support for 3 displays... But you should be able to choose which outputs to use for a dual monitor setup.

Cheers for the help so far guys, much appreciated. I'll have to look into this card in little more detail then, it's a shame I can only choose from AGP!

It would be ideal to run 2 monitors via VGA and DVI, then kick over onto the HDMI to watch a film on my TV at which point I wouldn't need 1 or either of the monitors.

Can you still get hold of half decent standard PCI cards?
