Hi guys,

Normally I'm an Nvidia man, and had been looking at the GTX770, but I've noticed on Anandtech bench that the R9 280X is a better card for similar money, so I've been drawn to the Sapphire 280X Toxic OC at the Today Only price of £269.99, which I can get today, but I've seen the Sapphire 290 Tri-X OC for £327.99, which I'd have to wait for another 2 weeks to order (thus risking a price increase?)

Also important to note is that I still need a few other bits to complete my build so it won't be ready for a little while?

Any ideas, or other suggestions?

Ta :)

Hey Bud,

If you intend on overclocking (which hopefully you will be), the 280X is the better card but out of the box, the 770 wins in most games.

My gripe with the 280X is the inflated prices because of mining, you could have picked these cards up for £220-£240 not so long back but because of supply and demand, prices have increased quite a bit.

Sapphire 290 Tri-X OC is a monster card for money 780 ti close performance only thing is possible driver issues and heat/noise.

If you would not consider a 680 then I would not look at 770, same card basically.

780 min if you got the cash.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the info :) Seemed from benches that the 280X had a good lead in a fair amount of games, and the Toxic OC is better still, and yes I'll be overclocking :p

Do you think the prices will tumble again soon?

Yeah, it did seem to have a nice lead over the 280X and I thought if I'm spending £270, then what's another £58, especially as I want it to last as long as possible?

My only concern is the amount of threads about faulty 290s?

There's no decent 680s left and a decent price is there?

My max would be about £330, so 780s out of reach.

(should have mentioned I want a non-reference cooler)

Do you think that's a better shout than the 2 Sapphires I've mentioned?

And thanks all so far for your input :)

The 290 Tri-X by all accounts is a decent card and at that price, I would jump on it. I dislike the price of the 280X, purely because I know what it was and what it should be.

Worth taking a gamble on the Tri-X not going up bud IMO and if it does, there may well be another custom card on offer :)

Thanks Monsieur Greg, appreciate it :)
