At the moment i am in the process of a new build, due to budget i am stuck with my 17" CRT, would love a 24" Dell WS, but can't afford it yet...

Will be going for a E6600, so what would be the best card for that CPU at 1280x1024 (max my 17" CRT can do)... Want a GFX card that isn't going to be wasted at that res, or be CPU limited...

Any help much appreciated... :)

Bedget is not a problem, i want THE best card for the system i am gonna build, ie, E6600 with 17" CRT, so what card for that system without buying a GFX card that is wasted @ 1280x1024...

Some will argue that a 8800GTS 320MB would be fine and most of the time it will but some games out now are needing 512MB RAM and so I've chosen the cheapest DX10 Card with that in mind being the ...

thx for the help, was just wondering if a 8800 series card was overkill at 1280x1024.... ATM, a 7800GTX is struggling at high details...

if you running vista then go for it, if you running xp then that card is overkill i use a x1950pro on xp to play agames at full detail 1280x1024. above that res they may struggle so if you intending a bigger screen at anypoint then the 8800 would be better

I run games at 1280x1024 and have an 8800GTS 320MB. It runs fine for most games, except the likes of EQ2...but very few people can run that at max settings anyway :p I'd recommend getting the 640MB version just to be safe, as future games will be using much larger textures. For example BIOSHOCK recommends you have at least 512MB of video memory! Wish i waited now and saved for that 640MB :p

I run at 1280x1024 with a 320mb 8800GTS but i wish i went for the 640mb version now. I think that's your best bet. My card is suffering from this damn driver bug thing and is getting some serious slow down in Oblivion. :(
