gfx card for around £100

Hi all

My current graphics card has died and gone to gaming heaven and I'm looking for a replacement. I have around 100 to spend on a new one

I have the Asus p5k pro motherboard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :-)

What CPU do you have? Just so we know of any potental bottleneck.

Are you happy to go secondhand?

I have a Q6600 processor

I would ideally like to buy new and overclockers is my local store

Providing your cpu is overclocked to ideally over 3ghz, I'd say you'll get enough benefit from either a second hand 7850 2gb or GTX660 to make it worthwhile (there still will be a bottleneck of varying levels in games due to the cpu though).

Overclocked it'll give pretty good performance, but it's quite a way behind the 7850 and the memory's not great.

if you can find a B-grade one for a good price, maybe check it out. Unfortunately there aren't really any good ones in that price range in the B-grade section at the moment

I put one in for a friend yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how well it coped at 1080p on medium and high settings.

ocuk had a b-grade 7850 for about £110 recently - that'd be a great option if b-grade's ok.

GTX 650 Ti Boost is a bit over budget but is supposed to be worth the £30 over the 7790. If you could find a b-grade one for cheaper I reckon that would be your best bet.

The 7790 is far better than the GTX 650 ti. The boost is better than the 7790 overall, but then the 7850 is better than the boost.

The 6850 is about the same speed as a 7770. They rank something like this :

7850> 650ti Boost> 7790> 650ti> 7770/6850> 650> 7750.
