Hi,

I've been struggling with this problem for a while now and its really bugging me. Basically about 1/3 of the time i start my pc the gfx card isn't recognised. Its a hd7950 in an asrock z77e-itx. When it does recognise the gfx card the pc runs fine and theres no issues with intense gaming etc. However when i shut it down and turn the pc on the next day the gfx card sometimes isn't recognised (nothing in device manager, can't install amd drivers etc). Literally nothing has changed or been moved overnight and yet the card is for some reason not being recognised. If this happens in the morning the card won't work for the rest of that day no matter how many restarts i try or how much tinkering i attempt. It will be another 24-48 hours before it'll randomly start working again.

Sorry for the long post, but has anyone had experience with something like this or got any ideas? I'm at a loss.

It could be a cold boot/detection issue

Are you on latest motherboard BIOS? How much PC ram are you running

I've updated the bios to the most recent version whilst trying to sort this out. No change unfortunately. I've got 8GB of ram. The gfx card works perfectly in another pc, i've tried it myself. And i also tried a known working gfx card in my pc while the issue was occurring and that made no difference.

I think i have. Like i said, how can the gfx card not be recognised at one time, then 24 hours later work perfectly? Absolutely nothing has been changed, no software, no hardware, the pc hasn't been moved an inch... all thats changed is power on or power off.

Any mates able to lend you a card to test with?? Or pass your card to them?? Could be the card could be the connection on your motherboard.

I've tested the gpu already. It works fine in another pc. And I tried a known working gpu in my pc when the issue was occurring and that didn't work.

How old and what brand/model is your PSU? Possibly power supply on it's way out?

Its a pc power and cooling silencer mk 3, 600W. The pc was a bitfenix prodigy system build from overclockers about 3 years ago.

I did wonder if it might be the psu, but if that was the case wouldn't it buckle under heavy load when the gfx card is actually recognised? Returning the cpu or gfx card to stock makes no difference in the recognition process. I tried that as a first resort.

I still think its a cold boot issue

what make/model of gpu? try with 1.10v vtt and see if that helps

can also try cleaning the gold contacts on the gpu that slot into the motherboard
