Ok guys,
this is really beginning to Pi$$ me right off now.

I have had my rig (see sig) rock solid for a long time now.

I recently bought Duke Nukem forever (Steam) and well, I can't play it for longer than 3 minutes without is crashing.

I Updated Gfx driver before End May 2011 (ATI - 11.5 CAP 1 ??)

On 10th June, I did notice that Steam updated during the Duke Installation:
Direct X 9 (I think),
Visual C ++ 2008 Redistributable
and
Added something called " AMD Dual Core Optimiser"?

I have now deleted these last two items and rolled back to 11.4 ATI cats, but still fail, couple of minutes in, screen goes black and monitor switches to standby......have to press power down button to recover.

What is happening?

is it my GFX card or the Game ?

Oh, I can play BFBC2 all day and no issues.
:confused::confused::confused:
:(

cheers for that...I checked the Direct X link you posted and it stated it detected a newer version already installed so no need to update, I guess that crosses that one off?

the Visual C + + thing I am less sure about....do you need the latest patches for this?

I think you'll find that each game installs the version it needs.

On the PC I use for games I have, for example:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - 9.0.30729.17
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable - 10.0.30319

and a few other similar programs installed.
