Hi all

I'm hoping someone might have some clues to the problem i'm having? First off this is my spec as far as i can remember.

Abit P35 pro mobo
Q6600
4 GIG Ram (6400 i think)
BFG 8800GTX
Running Vista 64bit home premium

The problem is i think only when i'm playing certain games namly eve online and Company of heroes. Not exactly stressing my pc! Basically what happens is my screen goes blank but i can hear the game over the speakers, i don't think my keyboard works when this happens either. What is odd, is that if i just hit the reset button, it'll reboot but the screen still gets no signal. the only way is to turn off at the plug socket! Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

TT

Which power supply do you have and has this happened after you got a new card or has this rig worked fine and is only now happening ?

I have a corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 PSU
Actually to be more specific the gfx card is the BFG 8800GTX OC2.
I'd bought all the bits at the same time last November so it makes it harder to diagnose i guess. I think the problem appeared after a month or so but i can't remember tbh.

Thanks

I'll have a double check in an hour when i get home, but i'd checked it all when i built the machine. The one thing i could do with is some indication of how hot the card is getting, i dont seem to be able to find the software to give me this:( With my old leadtech card i had a rather nice program i could oc and moniter my card with.

Thanks reflux, got Riva up n running. My card is hitting about 72 deg, is that hot?

TT

I have an HD4850, and currently the temp is in the 40 deg area... and under load it goes no higher than 50? So perhaps it is to do with your temp (although most cards go upto 80 deg??).. One other program you can use is Hardware Monitor. Also see if your card/mobo came with any discs that can play with the fan speed, as you might find you can increase the fan speed to cool the card down.

Thats what always bugged me about the BGF card, i had some nice software with the leadtech on my old rig but this doesn't seem to have much at all. I'll have a look tonight at what software is out there i can have a play with. What made me wonder about temp is that the fan on the card although working doesn't seem to kick out much heat from the slot it uses or any air atall for that matter.

What buggs the hell out of me is i'd built 2 pc's at the same time, a tidy £900 one for my g/f and this £1700 monster for myself. Her's has not had a single glitch once, booted up first time from my initial build. Mine has given me some right headachs:(

Maybe look at more cooling for the case itself?

Aye i'm deffinatly going to look into inproving the cooling. I'm using a coolermaster wavmaster, not the biggest case i know but i love how they look so.. It's got 2 80's in the front, one in the back and one in the top. The cpu is kept cool with one of these 'Akasa AK-925 Revo CPU Cooler ' But i think it's a little too toasty down by the gfx card, will see what i can fit down there. I'm still a little confused about the lack of air coming out of the gfx card vent though, where is the hot air going after it's sucked in by the fan????

not too sure on this, more of an observation. Just finished building my first pc and noticed next to the fan on my gpu a heatsink.. possible all the heat is transferred to there?

One case you may be interested at is the Antec Three Hundred, I'm using it atm and it seems to be one of the best cases I have ever had, and this new pc is the most powerful, yet coolest one I've had yet!

Well sorry to revive this thread but i'm still having problems:( I installed RivaTuner and for reasons unknown my pc didnt crash for a few weeks... anyway it's doing it again!
It's hard to know really what has stopped working. I can hear game music when there is some ingame, but if i'm on teemspeak i can't hear or talk into that and no one hears what i say.
It's so random which is the wierd thing, i turn my pc on when i get home from work, start up eve online to do what ever i need to do, sometimes it'll crash within minuits other times after a few hours and sometimes not at all, i don't think it's heat related for this reason.
I just have to figure this out, this machine is mostly for eve online and anyone who plays eve will know how crucial it is to stay connected when things heat up :p

Now i've not ever done a BIOS update or really messed about with it, other than setting voltages for my RAM and a few other basic things. Could this have something to do with it? Would it be worth updating the bios in a fix for my problem?
Software, hardware or bios.... take your pick :p

Would it be worth formatting the HDD with vista on and doing a fresh install? Sorry for all the questions:(

Praying for some help

Yes updating the bios could help, also loading bios defaults could help as well. I would suggest reading the stickies around this forum, and alos do a google search on all areas you wish to get familiar with. It's imo the only and best way you will fully understand the problem you have.

Well i've been looking about for a while now and not really found anything. Was hoping someone here might point me in the right direction.
Thinking about it though, it only ever crashes during game play on eve online and COD but not if they are just paused (even for hours). It's not heat i don't think, it's all monitered.

I'm sure someone here will have a clue what it could be
