Evenin' all...
Anyone know what the current quickest nVidia card you can get is that won't use additional power from the PSU. Motherboard supplied power only.

9800GT Green.

The GT545 that's gonna be released seem to be bus-powered as well and would possibly be faster, but it's gonna be priced at around $150, so it would probably mean £120 in the UK- which is quite expensive.

Thanks again for the tip, and after a bit of searching around I was quite suprised to see just how old that 9800 is and that there have been no better cards released since! Especially seeing as the much more recent 6450 and GT430 are quite a bit slower. I might wait until that 545 you mention is released and see what that does to the price of the 9800. As it's not urgent, waiting a month or so to save a tenner is worth it.

Yea...it's kinda of a shame that Nvidia's current available entry level cards slower than the 9800GT by quite a huge margin, and there's a HUGE gap between the GT440 and GTS450 performance wise.

If going with Nvidia a MUST though? If you would consider ATI/AMD, the 6670 1GB at £60 is well worth considering:

what you are getting with the 6670 1gb is:
- on par speed/performance as 9800gt
- dx11 support
- 1gb vram
- 3 years warranty
- low power consumption:

(so it will use less electricity thus cost less on the energy, and runs a lot cooler)

I did see a few reviews of it, and it is an impressive card. The only thing stopping me from ordering one today is the folding performance. I know none of the cards would be particularly quick, but any ppd is good. I have made a note of it to replace my 4850 in my HTPC, though :)

On the NV side, it would be GT 440 for best single slot/no aux. power card.

GT 545 is a North American and Retail (no etail) SKU only. If you see them online, they are likely from a US based retailer with in-store pickup as the purchase option.

Are there no plans to release the 545 in Europe? Seems to be a gap in the market for a decently folding, no power connector card.
