Work are buying me Vista Ultimate next week. I gather i need to upgrade my gfx card to run some of the features on Vista. Currently i have a 64mb MX440 of some kind (sorry for the lack of knowledge but im not a gaming person).

What would be the cheapest upgrade taken into account i do not play any games at all.

Current system:

P4 3.2
Asus P4C800e deluxe
2x512mb of Geil Value (upgrading to 2GB soon)

many thanks

i use a 9800pro 128mb and that is awsome on the vista machine i have. all aero glass stuff works fine.
look on members market for some second hand bargains.

Can you give me some idea of what to look for on MM up to £30 max

Which is better?

A new Radeon 9550 for £30 or a second hand 9800pro for about the same price. Which of the two would require less juice as i dont have a very good PSU.

Thanks

would imagine the 9800pro, surely it doesn't require that much juice?, it is quite an old card after all.

Dont want to risk anything with my q-tec psu. MM looks like best bet me thinks. At least i have a little idea of what i'm looking for now. Thanks

9800 Pro [47W]

I've been looking at the link you sent earlier in the thread but could'nt find anything on the 9550. Would this be the same as a 9500pro [17W] or different?

I think the 9550 was a slow speed binned 9600 (non-pro) so I think the 9500 Pro is better, but more power hungry.

Is there anywhere else apart from the link supplied previously to information on the power draw from gfx cards?

9600 pro probably is more suited to my needs. Less power draw and able to run Vista. How much should i be paying for one from MM?
