Hey all. something really weird is going on. 2 days ago me and the mrs were watching naruto for prob most of the day and then my pc started to act really weird in mid stream and then just crashed.... so i restarted.... and it bombs out after the xp loading screen every time i try to boot.

ok tried safe mode and it loads up fine there. tried restoring to a earlier point (because i thought the vistamizer messed things up) but still with no joy...

then i formatted and reinstalled xp... updated service packs etc and then installed the graphics and then bam when i rebooted the same problem happens...

went back into safemode took the ati software off and its booting back in to windows again.

my mrs reckons its the agp port thats gone but im not so sure whether its the port or the card

Mobo: asus p4c800 delux-e
GFX: x800pro

had both of these a fair few years now but with no real overkill use untill we started watching like 6 plus hours a day on it hehe.

anyone have any ideas?

i am planning to take the card over to my mums later on and try it out on my other machine there but just wanting to know if the symptoms sound like anything to anyone?

Many thanks

Looks like a driver issue.
Are you using the latest offical drivers or modded?

Perhaps try an older driver to see if that helps at all?

ive allways used the official drivers.

it was working fine untill a few nights ago.

ive tried using older drivers and its the same.

thanks

Could try just installing the base driver and not the CCC...See what that does...Then install ATI tool or something instead of the CCC?

But trying the card in a different system would help, or a different card in your system.

i think i tried just the base driver and it seemed to have rejected it somehow... well i tried it 2 ways...

just the driver which it seemed to reject

and the second was when i was uninstalling the ccc it gives me the option to remove the software but leave the driver... even this just reverts back to a driverless situation.

i think i read somewhere that gfx cards can behave badly if the psu is on its way out... like rebooting and looping and stuff...

anyone think it could be this?

also how do the cheapest ati cards that ocuk sell compare with an x800pro? (im soooo out of touch these days hehe)

many thanks

It could be psu...but I would have thought that to be unlikely. Only way to see is by trying a different one? That's if you have one spare.

Depends on your budget concerning a new Graphics card :) How much you got to go on one? And I presume your x800pro is AGP?

right... I've tested the card in my other machine and its doing basically the same thing...

on my rig it just blacks out and on the second rig it just displays some trippy weird colours and crashes.

looks like the card has malfunctioned some how.

my psu is a 380w and the other is a 450w and much newer so im gona rule out that =(

looks like im gonna have to bite the bullet and replace the card.

its an agp card yeah (i forgot I tok my rig out of my sig hehe)

im looking for an equivilent card unless theres something drasticly better for a good price....

as far as budgets go im flat broke but I cand live without me pc so needs to be fixed hehe

my pc spec is as folows and please don't blame me if you laugh and spill liquids on your new upto date pcs =p

pentium-m @ 2.4ghz
asus p4c delux e
1gb mem

anyways im sad now =( hehe

If you could find out 'roughly'how much you can spend / scrape together...It would help people a lot more in having an idea on what kinda card you can get.

It may also be worth your while to look on the MM, might be some deals going on there :)

hmm ok well like i mentioned before i dont really have a budget but if i have to say then maybe 60-80 quid?

but only if that gets me something to the same quality of my dead card... if not i will have to spend more hehe

thanks again.

edit... what about these two cards?

how much much better is the dearer one? and is it worth it if im not really playing many games these days?
