Hi,

I'm just in the middle of mounting a pair of waterblocks to my 260GTX's, the EK Acetel coolers I have do not come with a ram backplate.. Will I get away temporarily without any sinks at all on the top gfx chips? or do I definitly need to buy some ramsinks for the top?

Cheers

What do you mean by temporarily? Do you mean you intend to get ram sinks/backplate eventually but just want to assemble it all without for a trial? If I were you I would just get the ram sinks/backplate before you assemble as it will be much less hassle, especially as it is a sli setup. I suppose though if you just pointed a high cfm fan at the backs of the cards it would probably run ok at stock, though it will still be difficult to get air to the back of the lower card. If you're asking is it ok to permanently run the cards without any ram sinks at all then I'd say no, unless you want to permanently put up with obtrusive fans pointing at the card as I say above, and then potentially not be able to overclock the ram much if at all.

yeah, thats basically what I meant - just for a check over before finalising.. not to worry - i'll get some sorted out just to be safe.. I just wondered whether they were definitley needed or not.

They 216's? i was wondering about this and if they were going to update the block to include a back plate.

Hi,

Yeah they're the BFG Maxcore 260s, EK do make a ram backplate, but there one of the few who do, and getting hold of EK stock seems almost impossible for everyone atm. I'll just buy 2 sets of Zalman ramsinks or something and be done with it.. Not waiting months for a fancy plate lol
