GFX, Reformat/Repair or hope?

Was looking at buying a better GFX card and wasnt to sure as been thinking about it for 2+ weeks, now the deciding factor is would i have to do a full reinstall or can I get away with a repair or just a uninstall drivers remove then install new card. Also would it make a difference to your answer if i was staying with ati or moving to nvidia?

Pretty simple really- Boot in safe mode, uninstall from device manager & use Driver Cleaner to remove the old drivers and then put the new card in. Boot up and install the drivers and you're good to go.
The driver cleaner step isn't even strictly necessary, is just good practice, and may improve FPS marginally.

Done this plenty of times, even from Nvidia to ATI (And vice-versa) with no probs whatsoever.
