Spec as per sig.

I'm looking for a 'new' Gfx card (it will need to be used to keep cost down).

What should I be aiming for, for a significant upgrade in performance? I want to pay as little as possible!

My native res is 1920x1080.

AH BFG! I had the 8800gt and 8800gts card from bfg, they were great but the coolers were naff!

for 1920*1080 i would opt for minimum 6870/gtx560 that you can get for around £130 now.

only thing is the gtx560 etc are not that more powerful than the gtx280...

on this, go for a GTX560Ti or 6950 OR wait a few months and see what nvidia and ati release in the gtx600/hd7 series!

its worth going from a 280 to a 560ti you will see a difference if you want to splash the cash, or just wait.

My XFX GTX 280 XXX scored around 11000 in Vantage IIRC.

I've seen GTX 560s overclocked and scoring 18000.

It's a fair chunk faster, even at stock speeds, and will no doubt be considerably cooler and quieter. That 280 was the worst card I ever had.
