Hi All,

Currently I have a BFG 8800 GTS OC 512M and I'm looking for a better card/s. One of my friends has suggested 2 of these 4870's

I then found this 4890

Would the pair of 4870's be better than the single 4890?

I take it whichever of the above would be better than my 8800?

Should I stick with nVidia as they have WORKING drivers

I have around £220 to spend but no more than £240.

Also would I need any power connectors or anything else?

All advice greatly appreciated so thanks in advance ;)

Do ATI drivers not work ? Must be a lot of unhappy ATI owners out there with redundant gfx cards. Surprised ATI are still in business too.

If you have £240 go for an xfx 4870x2

In the past I've had 3 radeons and had probs with drivers. my latest radeon was the x1950 and the only drivers that worked were the ones shipped with it.

So I take it from your response there isn't a problem now? thanks for the advice on the 4870 x2 I hadn't considered that. I checked my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R) which only has one PCIe slot so obviously would need an x2 card as it can't crossfire/SLI.

Would a 4870x2 perform better than a 4890? I play FPS games mostly CoD4, ARMA2, Age of Conan, Guildwars.

Thanks.

4870x2 would perform better than a 4890 hands down.

I hope there is no problem with the drivers now lol I've just ordered a new ATI card. :D

They say 'once bitten, twice shy' I guess i'm 6 times shy then :D

Thank you very much for the card info, much appreciated ;)

@ coupe69 my current max monitor res is 1680 x 1050 (Samsung syncmaster 2032bw) I might get a 24" later in the year.

Btw do those radeon use a 6 pin power or are they 8 pin? If so I'll need some kind of an adapter. I think they come with a twin 4pin to 6 pin don't they?
