Hi there.

Thinking of upgrading my GPU as my current one is either borked or just runs super super hot :(

Current spec: (Kind of vague, been out of the loop and not playing games for so so long, 3 years maybe?)

E8500 @ stock
HD4850 512mb
Asus P5Q
4gb GeiL DDR2
P182 loaded with fans

Had a problem for about a year (Started with Mafia 2) where my GFX reaches 115-120c and my machine restarts itself, this is with case fans up full and GFX fan on manual at 100%, and side wall of my case off.

Thinking this isn't normal, so thinking about a new card, also to hopefully give me a bit of a boost for BF3.

Was thinking of getting this:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?gcx=...ATI+Radeon+HD+6870+IceQ+X+PLUS+Edition+1024MB

Will this give me any significant increase in performance in BF3, currently running smoothly all on medium @ 1680x1050, or will the rest of my system be a bottleneck?

Also forgot to mention it happens with settings on low in Mafia 2 and BF3, so i'm thinking theres a problem there :(

Any advice would be great :)

Dan

Also any idea when that card will be In?

Budget is around 150 for the card, but as always, if I can get more "bang for buck" in a cheaper or more expensive card, recommend away :)

Realised i'd need a new PSU after I posted, any recommendations?

Also, who is leading the race at the moment, ATI or Nvidia out of interest?

I'd say they are about the same for that price range, if you can get a 560 Ti it would out preform the 6870.

Whats your price range for a PSU, you only need something like 550W-600W

Are 560ti's hard to get a hold of?

Again, as cheap as possible, Mrs will kill me if I spend loads :p

Great Card the Twin FrozR's are cards with amazing cooling, making OC'ing that little easier. That is a very cheap price for it too. I would go for that one.

Here's a PSU: Lepa N-Series 600W Power Supply

560Ti:
The Twin Frozr has a lot better cooling, im using it, soo quiet!
MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 1024MB

And here's the regular:
OcUK GeForce GTX 560Ti 1024MB

Here's the recommended 6870:
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6870 Vapour-X 1024M

Overall i'd say the 6870's are a good value for money but just for that extra the 560Ti is better.

I have that card and it is amazing, especially for BF3

Right, after the last overheat, machine has decided to give me just a light blue screen and then restart after 5 mins of browsing OcUK, fried me thinks :D

Right, before I clock buy, 560ti with FrozR, Lepa power supply?

Any other comments or opinions?

The Lepa PSU has great Plaudits and support by this forum.
I know that the Bequiet PSU is near enough Silent.

Either of them will be a good choice.

I'd get the Lepa (£55), XFX Core 550 (£58) or the Antec TP-550 (£60). My choice would be the Antec. The CPU power connector is a bit short though but can be extended, or it might just be enough anyway.

The 560ti Twin Frozr II is a great card. Factory overclock and runs cool. I have (had) one in my previous build, and runs great. Haven't tried it on BF3 but heard they run great.

Your main problem would be have a clean install of the drivers. uninstall all ATI drivers in safe-mode, and you should be good to go before you put in the NVidia card.
