gfx upgrade in the next 4months?

i will be upgrading my graphics card and ram just before swtor comes out should be sept/oct but no confirmation yet.

my current pc is
gfx: ati rad hd 5850 1gb
ram: 4gb @ 1600mhz
cpu: amd phenom 2 black 965 3.4ghz
monitor: dell ultrasharp @ 1680x1050
mobo: asus M4A79XTD EVO

do you suggest buying gfx card anytime before or waiting until sept/oct?

i was thinking nvidia with a high memory bandwidth
price £200-300max

6950/GTX570 at that price. I'd err towards the 6950 due to the 2gb of Vram, but the GTX570 at £233 on OCuk is hard to beat.

Don't look at the raw specs, rather their game performance. Most review websites tend to put the 6950 about 5-6fps slower than the GTX570, which is pretty apt, seeing as the 6950 is about £20-25 cheaper. All up to how much you want to spend.

We should see almost double the amount of shaders in AMD GPU's, which from the 4870 to 5870 had AMD ahead for a while.

Late this year, or early next year.
The 7XXX will be a full series, like the 6XXX and the 5XXX before it.

Though I would expect the highest end single GPU cards to come out first, and the lower spec ones to trickle out in the month to follow. Though your budget is likely to be okay for high end AMD cards, unless they dramatically change their pricing- which is certainly possible if the new cards are really powerful.
