I've found both of these at a good price but is 10 much of an upgrade from 9??

Only asking because 9 is obviously cheaper.

Cheers and a happy weekend to all :D

I've used Ghost 9 with XP for a couple of years now and have never had any problems with it at all.

I'd say go for version 9 - if it works, it works!

I'd say forget Ghost and get yourself Acronis True Image. Best back-up software I've used.
Ghost 9 is really just a re-badged version of PowerQuests Drive Image(V2i) its old and since Symantec bought out PQ they seem to have done nothing to its performance or compatibility with new hardware.
Ghost 10 is the latest version of the original Ghost products.

Acronis True Image has worked with every bit of hardware I've tried it with, Flawlessly.

Ghost 9 is a rebadge of PQs DriveImage, but regardless, it still does the job!

I've never tried True Image - never needed to I guess.

I'm not slating PQ's Drive Image, I bought V2i (Drive Image with RAID support built in) years ago and it was streets ahead of ghost at that time. Like all good things they either change with the times or they rest on their laurels and get left behind. I suppose the worst thing was PQ getting bought out by Symantec.

Reading this might change peoples views on buying products with Yellow livery.

Interesting read - I suppose it's down to what works for you.

When I bought Ghost 9, it seemed to me to be the best one available at that time - with it being a rebadge of PQs DriveImage and knowing Symantec, I figured that they wouldn't have changed the software that much anyway :)

These days I'm not a fan of Symantec products, so if I was looking for image software I would definitely have a look at Acronis True Image before looking at what Symantec have to offer.

Gone from ghost 9 to 10....

and 10s nice, u got a nice slider option to increase the speed of ghost image creation setting it on fastest does use up your cpu power/pc resources more but then it takes literally few minutes to create.

Ive had loads of probs with ghost 9. Couldnt restore an image due to comp not being able to boot into symatec recovery due to nforce 4 drivers on disc being crap. Got round it by using having to download systemworks 05 and use recovery disc on that. Symantec helpline was waste of time as well - they kept saying norton doesnt support 64 bit just because i had 64 bit cpu. Kept telling the idiot that i had 32 bit windows so makes no difference what cpu i had. I got ghost 10 now but havent used it yet. Havent had any other probs with ghost 9 apart from that above

Seems to me most folks like True image (after reading a couple of threads about backing up), I'll give that a look too.

Cheers guys :p

Sorry to hijack the thread.... but on average how big are everyones ghost images ? with no compression mine is currently at 72gb

Image 1 = C: = 613Mb
Image 2 = D: = 412Mb

Takes me about 30 seconds to restore my system  But then again my computer is setup properly ;) :p

P.S) I use Symantec Ghost 9 Corp edition and everything is done in DOS, I have images for: IDE, 10kSATA and 15kSCSI system drives and never had a problem.
