Ghost voicemail notification

A strange one. I have a new voicemail notification that won't go away, there is no voicemail there when I check. It's been like this for a year and my only guess is it's somehow related to my switch from 3 > EE > 3 a year ago (essentially left 3 for a better deal on 3 but joined EE for a day in order to port my old number over).

3 didn't have a clue and put me through to Samsung who obviously said this was due to a network issue and not down to the phone manufacturer. I am leaving 3 and either joining EE or Vodafone but I really can't be bothered having the notification for another year. Can anyone here confirm I would start with a clean slate or would it follow me to another network and if so, I would just have to get a new number. 3 claim it won't but they also said it was a Samsung issue so not entirely convinced.

I have tried disabling the notification, checking my mailbox, a change of phone, force stopping etc. Have managed to disable it briefly once or twice but it always comes back.

Thank you :). The leave yourself a voicemail trick didn't work as I have received a number of voicemails, deleting them as I go but the problem still persists. The clear data trick has worked but I have been here before and it came back eventually so will wait and see.

Edit - was just about to start getting excited and it came back. It seemed to coincide with me losing signal and regaining it.

Edit - this is why I am worried if I port my number, I will just get the same problem. It's beyond trivial I know but I like a clean notification tray and it's really getting on my ****.

When I had a rooted Note3 (still have it in a drawer somewhere), I had an app called HushSMS installed. This allowed me to send service messages from my phone. Two of the functions were:

– MWI Voice Activiation
and
– MWI Voice DeActivation

On the site the description under MWI Voice Activation says:

"Now this is the fun stuff. With this message you can let the target device think that there is a voice message on the receipients voice mal box. An icon gets displayed and the receipient usually will call his voice box finding out that there are no new messages. BUT: The symbol will not disapear. It will stay there until the user a) gets a deactivation message or b) reflashes his smartphone. Yes, even rebooting does not help. Be aware that you can drive people nuts with that one."

So it looks like the network need to send a MWI de-activation message to clear it.

Not much help, but it may explain.

Thanks, that's quite useful. I see you can also request to have your voicemail completely turned off. Now I have to try and deal with 3 tech support, wish me luck.

Edit - potentially good news. Ported my number over to Voda and no voicemail icon. I will wait a few more days before popping the champagne.
