After reading a thread earlier about ghosting, I've been curious about new monitors and if there any good.

Now i accept any monitor is going to do it, but i was wondering to what extent? i ask because currently my monitor is actually straining my eyes because it just looks like its "flickering" almost its so board (especially scrolling on web pages etc)

So how good are modern TN panels ? any better than this:

no need for the video but it will make you laugh just because its so bad

So was I, but appearntly not according to others in a few other threads that have passed though here in the last few days??

bearing in mind i am talking about cheap TN panels as well - if that makes any difference ?

It totally depends on the types of games.

Typical example is games like pro evo or fifa etc..fast enough moving but these are types of games which tft/lcd's seem to cope with exceptionally well (better than crt's somehow). On first person shooters lcd's are still without doubt far worse than CRT's when it comes to responsiveness (i won't call it just ghosting as there seems to be more to it than that). Cheap tft's will not be as good as the current crop of good overdriven 22"'ers that are appearing for £200-£220 ish quid but 95%+ of users who buy these as a starter tft are very happy with them.

You'd expect any modern TFT to be perfect for windows / browsing type use.

The video looks more like pointer trails than ghosting to me...

yeah, i wish it was!

think thats bad that is only a phone camera. 10x more visable to naked eye.

And its like that in games as well. its like some really crap motion blur 24/7!

and like i said, gives me horrible headache when browsing the forums :(

Sorry, I didn't read properly and didn't realise that was actually your monitor!

What screen is it? There's something seriously wrong with that.

I get the same thing on my Belinea 22", maybe not quite as bad as the pointers are more discrete/spaced out (could be due to me moving the mouse faster I guess). It makes it look like I have 4 or 5 mouse pointers when moving the mouse very quickly.

The actual VGA cable will make a difference as well, poor cables or badly shielded = ghosting, even on a top notch monitor.

Its a 5 year old, cheap "ProView" 15" TFT. it is a pile of carp. It also has a dogy connection on the monitor side, becuase it goes purple sometimes :) it is dreadfull. However, was just making sure im not gonna be in a similar boat with TN panel becuase that'd be a waste of money :)

Coming from CRT, my TFT (in sig) has very obvious afterglow, shadowing, ghosting, or whatever you want to call it (in games, everything else is fine).

I did spend about 6 months researching them, and the 2ms time led me to believe there would be none, but further research suggests that better results were from the LG226WT, whereas I bought the LG226WTQ. It's all very confusing, without even getting into panel-lottery territory.

Ordered the IIyama, should arrive today, hopefully it will be better for gaming. Ideally, you would want to see a screen in a store and try it out first, but of course this is not possible online and there are no decent shops in ireland, so what can you do? ;)
