This should not be the case am I right?
I think so, if you believe the hype this card should be pumping out the fps like nobodys bizz

heres my setup

MOBO: Asus Maximus 7 Ranger
RAM: Corsair Vengance Pro 8Gb 1866MHz
GPU: Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 4Gb
CPU: i4790k watercooled with a H105
PSU: cooler master v700
Running on 1080p full hd monitor

Nothing has been tweaked or OC'd (although I'll get to it at christmas when I'm off college), however I'd expect mostly 60 fps on frarcry 4 with this rig however its basically staying on 30 fps and going up 60 fps for a bit (actually its behaving like its capped at 60fps which I'm thinking maybe one source of the issue but I dont know to switch it off), very frustrating. I've watch a couple of vids of other setups with this card and theirs is basically anywhere from 50 to 80!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtBfehsj4I0

So I'm looking some advice, where do i go from here? Surely its not a faulty card, I'm think my system isnt optimally set. Where do I start? What things should I be looking for to diagnose the issue? Can you link to any good pages which will have good info on anything related?

Thanks for reading folks, all reply's welcomed and appreciated

I imagine Vsync is on which is why it's capped at 60fps. Make sure triple buffering is enabled in the advanced menu screen. The lack of a cpu overclock is probably hurting your minimum fps which when it drops is causing it to fall to 30 (as triple buffering isn't enabled).

Overclocking your CPU "might" help and see if new driver would help.

If neither help with the situation, I'm afraid the only thing left to say is "welcome to the wonderful world of Ubisoft games"...

so i just ran the unigine heaven benchmark on ultra and got

ave: 100
max: 196
min: 10

so i think its safe to say its not the system, turns out the vsync in my nvidia control panel was on so ill try it now with that off and lets ya's know

Don't worry, FC4 is still a bit broken and the performance on my GTX 970 also leaves much to be desired. AC:Unity on max details runs better for me, even with the card at stock;p The game was stuttering like crazy and I had frequent drops to 45 fps. I suggest you use adaptive v-sync from Nvidia control panel and disable the built-in one altogether. Also, make sure that the game isn't switching to borderless on its own accord. Mine did, which for some odd reason drastically decreased performance and caused stuttering. Did you update the game to 1.3? It made a significant difference in my case.

I had a similar problem with v sync in the game and had to enable adaptive v sync in the control panel. I have also tweaked my gamer profile slightly by using a few i had seen posted by other users and tweaking a bit more. Give it a try and see how you get on. I'm mostly locked to 60fps with minor drops occasionally, usually when panning very fast. Also just to add, the game looks absolutely stunning in my opinion.

Make sure you set Gamerprofile to Read only after making changes otherwise the game will overwrite the file. Also, make sure key bindings etc. are done first otherwise the game will crash when attempting to change them in game.

where do you find the gamer profile? directory i gather but best to ask

good to hear some are having the same issues with the game, I'm always very quick to blame the hardware

should the game not update automatically, where do you find the version? I'm new to uplay so please excuse my noobyness

Glad it worked for you too :) Pain in the ass having to tweak stuff like this just to get a game playable though

Yea...it's ridiculous that customers/consumers have to fix the games (or find a way to fix the game) in developer's stead...:o

I remember the good old days before the internet became popular.

The game Devs had to get it right first time before a game launch unless they wanted to go to the expense of sending everyone floppy disks with patches.

The internet has had a very bad influence on game quality making it easy for companies to launch half finished games and worry about the mess later with downloaded patches.

I think games nowadays are a bit like going to cinema to watch a movie, and if the movie sucks, consumser have to suck up to it and they won't get their money back...fair enough, however the issues with games are oftenly they can't even get the basic things right...like "working properly" before selling them.

Had a movie stop playing all of a sudden at the cinema for no apparent reason, or the firm skipping back and forth all over the place, I'd imagine consumers would have the right to demand their money back...whereas for games, it is always be the consumers at the loss. They got your money, end of story. I think publishers are simply abusing the "no refund for software" approach.

It's good to see that the truth is out there, now we just need a way to do something about it. I wouldn't mind if the fact that there using us as bug testers was announced and reflected in the price.

apparently there is going to be more stricter things to come after big issues with many games recently. cant remember where i seen the article but it is coming.

I've also modified my gamerprofile file but I didn't change the mip loading thingy as it kinda messes up the textures. You can also increase the number of pre-buffered frames to 3 in the nvidia control panel, that also helps a fair bit. Anyways, the game ran like a nightmare when I launched it for the first time and it's still not ideal.
