Steve Johnson, regular UK RC Show pilot, flies his new A-10 at BMFA National Visitor Centre in Buckminster, UK. This Skymaster A-10 is 1:6.25 scale with length 2552 mm (101.3”) and wingspan 2784mm (109.6”). Dry weight is 20kg to 22kg (45-48Lbs) and the model needs 13-15 servos.

I've been flying RC jets for a while. That A-10 would be a pussycat to fly compared to my other jets. Bigger planes tend to fly easier. Problem is knowing how much it costs when you're flying it. This is my 250mph "Ultra Flash". Gets the adrenaline pumping.

We use Jet A-1 fuel used by full size jets which is easy to get if you are near a small airport, but it does smell, so I tend to use paraffin. Some use diesel but often need to tinker with the engine ECU as it burns differently. We then add in 5% synthetic turbine oil so the bearings are lubricated when the engine is running. Engine spins at about 120,000 rpm.

I love the sound of that GAU 8 "milk bottle delivery system" when it opens up. It really sounds like the real deal. Both sounds of motor and cannon burst down pat.

Love it! How's the GAU8 sound emulated? Imagine flying this just far enough away but close enough that people think it's real and then let off the gatling gun. What an experience!

In this case I added the sound to the video. Couldn't resist! Here's another super realistic jet. Great these models are created because sometimes the full size doesn't fly any more. The English Electric Lightning cold war supersonic jet here is a good example.

Some details of this amazing model.
