I've had an iPhone for years now and always wanted to teather it to my laptop, the only restriction was O2 being awkward!

Now, GiffGaff have offered teathering for free with their £10 a month goodybag, it is APPLE who are preventing us from using this facility as they don't recognise GiffGaff being an iPhone carrier :(

Is there a way around this without jail breaking ?

Is this why my iphone 3GS has almost non-existant signal with giffgaff?

I have ordered a Nexus 4 as I can't even make calls with my 3GS in places I used to get a strong signal with my old andriod device.

Tethering is now included in all o2 data packages I believe...

GiffGaff is funny network, they just piggy back o2's network (not surprising as they're owned by telefonica) and proxy lots of things. As a result of them 'not being a proper carrier' you can't get a carrier profile to enable tethering.
