Gifs and transparent backgrounds.

Hey guys,

I'm working with a lot of hi-res projects in Photoshop which I would like to be able to export to .gif in order to maintain their transparent backgrounds for web... afaik, problem is,.gifs are restricted to 256 colours meaning I lose a lot quality during the transition

No other format supports transparent backgrounds, do they?

PNG 8 or 24bit is where it's at, 8for smaller images but still retains high image quality and won't have that severely dithered look of a gif.
