Gift crates

Hi there!

For a bit of a backstory, please read THIS OP.

Now you all know the Youtubers who get those fancy crates full of whatever crap merch the latest game is throwing at them? Those. We want one of those. We would like a wooden crate which we can stuff full of these components (which will be BNIB, warranty and all) together with a tool kit, some snacks and drinks, and various other goodies for our friend and deliver the whole thing in one go, where we will help him build the PC so he learns the basics and hopefully it becomes a hobby.

So, where does one go for such a crate?

I've managed to find this which seems like a good fit but I'm hoping to find it cheaper or better still, free (which is a shame as I've binned tons of these things over the years).

Customization will be applied later on, and I might even find a way to get some smoke to come out of it upon delivery, like it's a top secret nuclear device or something.

We really want to go OTT for this one, we've done tons of giveaways in the past but this one needs to be completely ridiculously over done due to who it is.

Any ideas?

Or as above, grab some plywood and aluminium angle, cut to size and screw together?

If you're delivering in person and this thing is to be disposed of then perhaps you could somehow tape down or strap everything to a shipping palette...(should be easily acquired cheaply or even for free) then attach a pink ribbon or bow to it for comedy effect

If you want a container that he might like to keep then perhaps get an old trunk - the big wooden suitcase things people used to travel with a couple of generations ago - they're quite popular these days in people's homes as ad hoc coffee tables or DVD/CD storage etc... though you might have to shell out a little bit for these now as a result of that popularity - but then again it is an additional gift that can be used by him rather than a disposable container.

Would avoid sending a device that is rigged to smoke and imitates some sort of bomb if you are not delivering yourself. Would be a shame for the parcel to be destroyed because it started smoking at the depot or on delivery.

Wouldn't care I've had hundreds that I've disposed of over the years. Would cost more to have the things sent down to you than it would cost to buy the one in your OP though.

I probably should've added that it'll be delivered by us personally. We're also going to stream the reveal and the build, and our video guru will hopefully chop up the results and make a nice video of it.

buy some old pallets, tin of wood stain and make a crate - surely that's the best option shirley?

Could do as a last resort, but I'm hoping to have a proper crate. I've secured a painter to stick the FG logo on it already, we're making progress :cool:

Didn't you need to get rid of a shedload of pedestal units from work a while ago ? They are crate shaped. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

Gone already, although they wouldn't have been even close to what we need sadly. I'm going to phone around today and see what I can source, gotta be something out there free / cheap.
