In the process of finishing a period house rennovation, and as the walls were back to brick, for re-wire/plumb etc I installed the obligitory structured cat5e cable to each room, with everything terminating in the cupboard under the stairs (ingress point of cable, and master phone socket, router).
I have a Cisco layer 3 switch running at the moment, as I had one to hand - but I'd like to replace it as a) it's quite power hungry, and b) it's noisy (hum under stairs can be heard at night).
I looking for the following, and was hoping for some recommendations.
- 24x gig ports.
- Rackable.
- Metal Chassis (for termination of cable shielding)
- 0 fans, 0db.
- Low power consumption as will be run 24x7.
- Non-managable (cheap and cheerful)
Any ideas? No fan options appear to be thin on the ground.
