ok so decided to do a little cryptocurrency mining and bought the above motherboard linky here

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4153#ov

Then bought 6 R290x from OC linky

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-085-HS

Now the fun starts, put a single GPU in the PCIEX16 slot - not recognised. Tried all 6, wont post.

Tried various combo's and eventually got 4 working but none of the tools AMD Catalyst or the HIS tool that came with the cards would report temps or let me overclock them.

Looking for some adivce, are the GPU a piece of xxxx or is the mobo a piece of xxxx ?

Power wise I have 2 1000w gold units powering the rig so no power issues.

thanks !

Most gpu problems with Gigabyte boards can be fixed by flashing to the latest motherboard bios. Download the bios to a USB stick and flash using the tool in the bios. Do not use any windows based flashing software.

just to update and close this thread.

1. Giga admitted the mobo only supports 4 GPU's.
2. One of the R290x is DOA.

Saga not ended there though....

Daft question - How are you going to run the 4th card on that motherboard when it only has 3 PCI-E 16x slots.

Edit: Ah, using the x1 slots! - never tried this.

Its more usual for a board to only support 4 GPUs max (with any degree of stability), finding a board that actually lets you use 6 fully stable will be a lot harder - even with the use of risers, etc. and will need some research - with mining so popular there are a few threads here and there where people have tried a bunch of different boards and noted which ones they had the better results from. (May have some luck with external PCI-e splitters but not something I'm familiar with).
