Hi guys,

I recently bought a Belkin gigabit 5 port switch and a Belkin gigabit PCI card. My intension was to connect my main pc up with my htpc over a fast LAN. My main pc already has an onboard gigabit network connection (dfi ultra d) so all I needed was a gigabit pci card for my htpc. Well alls up and running and both pc's can see each other but for some reason the connection is only working at around 16%-18%, the switch indicates both pcs have 1000mbs network cards and windows now says 1gbps in the task managers of both pcs. Both pcs are connected to the switch with cat 5e cables no longer than 7m long.
why are the tranfer speeds so low?

I get around 78 MBps read and 69MBps write with my Raptors in RO but my htpc has some slower barracudas that run half that speed, but its still nearly twice as fast as what I'm getting from this gigabit network.
I've tried directly connecting both pc's to each other with a crosswired cable and theres little or no difference. cpu usage is less than 5% on avwerage for both pcs.

You using jumbo frames capable kit and is it enabled ? You also don't mention what transfer speeds you are getting only % of utilization so speculation is a little pointless.

As I say I'm getting around 18% on average out of this gigabit connection, that’s around 180Mbps so I should be seeing around 18MBps transfer speed. I did a quick time test and I'm seeing around 19MBps transfer speed, so the network utilisation % seems fairly accurate.
I've read that jumbo frames are not recommended for media systems, i.e. when streaming videos across the network you can experience stutter
