Hey guys and girls...

I have seen people get around 80mbs on a gigabit network and was wondering if i could do the same, I was getting 8mbs on the network then i found the advanced tab in device manager and I got 22/23mbs up and 35/37mbs down with some changes.. I use an onboard MSI gigabit port

** EDIT will i get an improvement with a dedicated card?

The changes are:
ARP Offload: Enabled
Auto Disable Gigabit: Disabled
Energy Efficient Ethernet: Disabled
Flow Control: Disabled
Green Eathernet: Disabled
Interrupt Moderation: Enabled
IPv4 Checksum Offload: RX & TX Enabled
Jumbo Frame: 9KB MTU
Large Send Offload v2 (IPv4): Enabled
Large Send Offload v2 (IPv6): Enabled
Network Address: Not Present
NS Offload: Enabled
Priority & VLAN: Priority & VLAN Enabled
Receive Buffers: 512
Receive Side Scaling: Enabled
Shutdown wake-on-lan: Enabled
Speed & Duplex: 1.0Gbps Full Duplex
TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4): Rx & Tx Enabled
TCP Checksum Offload (IPv6): Rx & Tx Enabled
Transmit Buffers: 128
UDP Checksum Offload (IPv4): Rx & Tx Enabled
UDP Checksum Offload (IPv6): Rx & Tx Enabled
Wake on magic packet: Enabled
Wake on pattern match: Enabled
WOL & shutdown link speed: 10mbs first

Get rid of jumbo frames (unless everything on your network supports and has them enabled). Make sure the other computer also has offloads and Recieve Side Scaling enabled.

Vista or Win7 on both comps is recommended for best windows transfer speeds. Nic wise cheap onboard gigabit should get you past 50MB/s. With Intel nics in both machines I have no trouble doing 110MB/s from Win7 to Server 2008.

How fast can your Hard drives move stuff? That'll probably be the capping point.

Also don't expect amazing things from onboard NICs, if they were that good we wouldn't bother putting very expensive Intel/broadcom ones in servers :)

More info:

I have a 8 port zyxel gs-108b Switch and a readynas duo (now with 2 2TB WD Green Drives in raid 0) and a late 2010 mac mini (media centre) I use Cat5e cables.. I dont know what other info you need soz.

Urrm Would a better card and cat6 cable help? If so what card would you recomend? I dont want to spend loads just something that will be decent?

I actually gained a little speed with Interrupt Moderation set to "Disabled". Just a simple test though, by copying a folder to/from the NAS down to the PC. :)

The ReadyNAS duo is probably your sticking point, not much you can do about that - it's just under-powered hardware. This review shows similar results to those you are experiencing.

Arh ok im pushing it then, and pc to mac im getting around 40mbs.. What nic card would you recomend? as I'm going to build a AMD x4 media centre soon (hopefully) so I would buy 2 when i do that.

Intel Pro1000 <insert variant here>
I've got a Pro1000PT and Pro1000GT in my server at home. Not sure if you can get the PT so easily now, i think it's been super-seeded by the CT.
