I have a Netgear GS605 gigabit switch. Currently there are two machines connected to it. One is my existing desktop and the other a new machine I have build to run WHS.

The WHS is showing a 1000Mbps connection but my existing desktop only shows 100Mbps.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte 965p-DS4 with onboard gigabit network. This shows as a Marvell Yukon 88E8053 Gigabit Ethernet Controller in the device manager.

I have installed the latest Marvell drivers, tried different cables etc but can't seem to get it connect at 1000mb. The speed is just report on the LAN connection status as 100.0Mbps and shows with an orange light on the switch. The port for the WHS is green.

Copying files to the WHS is painfully slow. < 2mb/sec.

Any ideas?

Is the switch completely 1Gb or on limited ports only?

Also, have you checked the Speed setting on the NICs properties? You could try force 1000 and see what it makes of it.

I had this same problem with the Netgear GS605, removing the power cable for a few seconds and replacing it usually fixed it, but after a time that didn't, so simply bought an HP ProCurve 1800 8 port switch (no more dropping to fast eternet speeds)...the 1400 (8 port) would be cheaper as it is unmanaged...so the actual problem lay with the Netgear GS605.
