Gigabit switch only showing 100mb connection

Just noticed today on my MacBook Pro that my ethernet connection changes randomly from a gigabit LAN connection to 100mb connection. I am using a netgear gs605 switch and the light is green when a gigabit connection is active. Occasionally when I look over to the switch this has changed to the orange light (slower speeds). Any else experience this or any explanations as to why it would happen? It was always a green light until i got my new router but this is more than likely just a coincidence.

How's the new router connected? Though as you say, it's almost certainly a coincidence.
Try forcing the MBP to 1Gbps (rather than autodetect it'll most likely be set to) and see how it goes.

Cheers I tried using a manual config in the MBP network settings and it forced a 1gb connection straight away. It gives me options for full duplex, or full duplex and flow control. Which one should I select?
