Gigabit switch recommendation

Hi guys,

Just moved into a new house and I'm looking at getting either an 8 or 16 port gigabit switch to serve my room, friends room, 2 servers and a couple nas boxes. The switch will connected to a virgin router for Internet connection.

I've seen the netgear gs108 and gs116 which seem a decent price. Any experiences with these or other recommendations?

Thanks

HP Procurves are great, if I were to buy a new switch I would buy one without a doubt. I currently use a Dell PowerConnect 24 Port Gigabit switch but the web interface is not as great as HP or Cisco but it works alright ;)

What's the advantages of buying a HP gigabyte switch over the likes of netgear even if it's for home use.

Need one myself and would like to know the pro's and con's.

Mine is just a personal recommendation, I had a Netgear before the HP at it just wasn't as good, throughput was alway poor in one direction!

As soon as I swapped the Netgear for the HP problems went away.

I'm thinking of getting one of the Green D-Link's (DGS-1005D), they claim to use very little power. My Netgears are using far too much for always on home applications, the Netgears also run really hot.

Ditto - I was looking at the d-link's too - specified at 6W ... Still can't see how a switch needs to use that much
