So I set up a NAS recently and connected it all up using Powerline 500 devices but the speeds I'm getting are rubbish (syncing at 150-337mbps and transferring at between 4MB/s and 10MB/s). As I can't get ethernet connecting the three devices I'm wondering if ac wireless may be a better option? Is there anything out there at the moment at reasonable cost that will give me a better connection over wifi (would need to be USB adaptors into a synology NAS and a computer as well as a Router)? I understand I won't get Gigabit speeds but maybe faster than the powerline speeds!

802.11n can offer "up to 300mb" connections. That is however in perfect conditions, line of sight, etc. (imagine that quoted speed as the MPG figures quoted on car brochures).

AC will be what I'm looking at, n isn't really fast enough for what I want. Any recommendations on ac kit and what sort of speeds I'll get?

We are with BT so the homehub 5 is of interest as well as a couple of BT dongles which I could get for £85. I haven't been able to find any real world speed tests yet though.
