Not sure, just happen to know that one is Gigabit and n because I have two sat on my desk at the moment

Do you really need Gigabit?

if pos coz it's for transfering loads of data back and fourth between pc's on and network

Belkin N1-Vision will save you £40 over the Draytek - but for that extra £40, you're buying a serious bit of business grade kit.

Then would a Gigabit switch not be the answer (assuming that connecting a 'regular' adsl router to one of the ports wouldn't pull the whole thing down to 100Mbit - or would it?)

Yeah - and give you a huge choice of ADSL routers that weren't Belkin too.

It wouldn't. Only the port connected to the router would drop to 100Mbps or whatever the two negotiated to.
