why is the gigabyte the cheapest of the 6870 v/c's?
As i can get a new one for £170 inc vat.

I presume it is a reference v/c,perhaps it might be the cooler isn't very quite,i don't know,or is it the manufactures warranty.

Have they support for the uk?

Thanks.

Top brand gigabyte and the warranty support is decent from what I have read on the web. Gigabyte are massive and can do good deals with the retailers on their product, nothing dodgy about them.

Thanks for your reply.
The site i looked at for the 6870 at £170s had it for 1 yr warranty,so i emailed Gigabyte uk,and they said the 6870 had 3 yrs warranty, but not from the date you bought it,but from the serial no.
So i suppose seeing they haven't been out long,it might count from then, depending how old that £170s v/c is.

I think for £170 a 6870 is a good deal, and a Gigabyte even more so. The fact that the 3 years run from the serial is better for the second hand market and the fact that Gigabyte have got the RMA set up in the UK is another winner.

I picked up a gigabyte 6870 it is ref design at 1790 thats a great price I paid 180 for mine. Good card nice and quiet.

5850 is presumably a more expensive core to manufacture as there are more stream processors etc.

I've not really looked into it but if you were to overclock an 5850 to 850mhz or beyond you'd probably get near 5870 performance, it may be difficult to compare the two generations of cards fairly though what with ATI decreasing IQ to boost 6870 performance.
