Gigabyte 7850 OC Dead?

Reset the CMOS and reset the overclock. Last resort would be new installation of Windows if that got corrupted. I think you normally void the warranty if you overclock?

Tried resetting CMOS and same issue, computer is currently running perfectly fine with my GTX260 in it, only BSOD's with the 7850 in. As for the overclock it's a factory OC.

Tried it in another PC although it doesn't BSOD in that one Windows does block the AMD driver at boot saying that the card reported problems and instead just loads that standard VGA driver.

Yes tried with several same thing with all of them.

Sounds like a dead card as you tried it on another computer. Maybe the BIOS wasn't up to date on the other computer but would seem with it working in neither correctly, it is in need of an RMA :(

Been many 7850s failing of late.

I had 2x dodgy Gigabtye cards, i think OCUK stopped stocking them now lol.

The MSI one i have atm is dodgy also, i fixed the dodgy boot up but it loads desktop slow still? I fixed it using a USB connection instead of DVI lol? The 285 still has no problems with DVI and boots straight into desktop.

The MSI card is however failing to produce as good as fps as the Gigabyte card, even when clocked to the same speeds?

Ive given up on 7850s for the moment i may try a 660 but dont think they match the 7850s performance? Aslong as i can play around 50 fps BF3 ultra 1920x1200?

SO be carefull when buying 7850s.

Offtopic - Greg to send an OEM HDD back do i format it and just wrap it back up?

Yes bro :)

Let them know you wish to return it though.

Cool, yeah i told them i didnt need since the 7850 is still playing up on my pc :\, i fixed the boot up errors by using a HDMI cable but it takes extra long for the desktop to load. But its not getting any better FPS then my 285 in games so its going back!

Thanks again man, sorry to OP for offtopic.

OP, if you have a decent cpu and mb the 7850s are supposed to be good but like me im 2 gens behind on cpu and miles behind on mb so its crap lol.

This is what my brothers using, yes it would suit me lol, but for £300 i can get an i5k bundle so what is cheap? Id also need new Ram since its triple channel.

you can run cheap dual channel aslong as its ddr3,pity i sold my x58 board, the cpu used is around £90,£50 the board

Nah i have an old X48 chipset so ill need the ram also lol. I know its cheap but still adds up.

That price would be nice £140 then £20 for RAM £150 for card, basically a new pc to tide me over until may 2013.

The fact the 7850 hates my PC has ****ed me off. Im gonna get a 660 when they go on sale again to see if this works better. Will trying a 580 test to see if a 660 works? Or will i have to try the 660?

no idea, only way to know is try and see what happens, its not the cards its poor bios support imo, even some z68/z77 neded bios updates for the cards to work at all

Well my mobo has the latest BIOS and the 7850 just wont play nice. Nvidia is totally different though so this is my last hope!

If i cant get a 660 to run nice ill have to wait until the next gen i5ks are released and then wait for a nice deal on them then build a pc from that.

I wouldnt mind a 5870 or 5850im sure they would provide a nice boost from my 285?

did you do a reinstall of windows? nvidia can leave drivers behind that interfere with amd cards

i had a 5870,its a decent card dunno how it compares to a 285,

Yeah i had a full new HDD lol still bad performance and glitches everywhere.

New cables the whack no such luck!

I read the 5870s at same clocks as the 7850 are better cards?

Its also DX11 but old style lol.

Im sure they would beat a 285 it seems like it has a much better spec?

its pretty close to the 7850 at stock clocks, but the 7850 will overclock above and beyond what any 5870 will,

its a real shame you cant get it to work as its a really good card,id love to know whats causing the trouble

Same mate im so puzzeld, but it has to be the mobo?

If im clocking my CPU from 2.6 to 3.2 and no difference in performance? Also in games from ultra to high settings the difference is minimal like 3-4 fps.

Its one of the strangest things ive ever come across.

Ive ruled out many things;

Cant be PSU since i run a 285 which uses 65w more power? Ive tried 2 lots of 6 pin adapters also.

Changed DVI leads and even tried HDMI, the HDMI stops some corruption on boot up but nothing changes in games.

RAM has been tested fine.

So it has to be mobo? Some games are not even using 100% gpu load. The thing is ive had 3x now and all 7850s have performed differently. The first was fine with games from what i can remember but had artifacting, second was worse and bad in games and 3rd same as the second.

I know its a realy good card thats why i tried 3x dispite the faults lol. Real shame im gutted!
